With so many different torrent search engines out there to choose from, how are you supposed to be able to discern which one is right for you? Going at it the old-fashioned way – one at a time, through trial and error – can be very time consuming (not to mention exceedingly stressful). There are just far too many out there. And each torrent search engine has its own strengths and weaknesses.
How are you supposed to figure out, then, which torrent site will be best for finding the latest album from your favorite artist? Which one will have the hot new blockbuster movie in HD the moment it is released in theaters? Which one will have the best, easiest to download files of the most sought-after software on the market? Well, that is precisely why I created TorrentSites – to help make this process a little bit easier for you.
The first thing to consider before checking out any torrent site, though, is this: do you want to use a generalized torrent search engine that offers a little bit of everything, or would you rather use a specialized one that caters heavily to one specific type of content over others? Both options, of course, have their positives and negatives. And, I would say, that the answer depends on what it is that you are looking for, and what it is that you value in a torrent search engine.
Maybe you are trying to hunt down a very obscure video game from the 90s. You have checked every big-name torrent site out there – The Pirate Bay, RARBG, 1337x – all to no avail. Maybe, then, you might have better luck using a torrent site that is specifically made for hosting video games. The communities on such sites tend to be tighter knit, more active, and more knowledgeable about the kind of content in question (in this case, video games). All of this, it seems, would add up to you having a better chance of actually finding that elusive game in question.
Sounds perfect, right? Well, there are some roadblocks to consider as well. First of all, these more niche torrent sites tend to have much smaller communities (paradoxically, this makes them more and less effective). A smaller community of peers means that there may be fewer seeders for the file you want (assuming you were able to find it to begin with). This is usually counterbalanced, though, by the fact that these smaller communities have much more active members who often seed their downloads religiously.
The second big issue with small sites is that they tend to be exclusive. Again, this is a positive and a negative. On the one hand, this makes for a better, more supportive, more active community of peers. But on the other hand, well, you might not even be able to get access to the site. A great deal of these sites tend to be invite-only, which means that you will already have to know someone in order to gain access to these exclusive torrenting clubs.
But perhaps you aren’t on such a specific quest for an esoteric video game. Maybe you just want to be able to easily and quickly access all types of different content on a whim – movies, TV shows, video games, documentaries, anime, software, music, etc. – and you want your torrent search engine of choice to cater to your eclectic tastes. If so, a more generalized torrent search engine might be right for you – one like Lime Torrents, for instance.
How to unblock Limetorrents
Background
When I first came across Lime Torrents, I couldn’t help but be hit with a wave of nostalgia. Everything about this site is so reminiscent of an early P2P file sharing program that I used to use as a teenager (perhaps you remember it too): Lime Wire. Man, just typing the name out brings me back to spending hours in my bedroom, sitting at my family’s Windows XP desktop computer, loading it up with hours of music (and probably viruses). It’s nice to see that Lime Torrents is paying homage to its P2P roots (if that is, in fact, intentional).
Lime Torrents, though, is a bit different from your average torrent search engine, such as The Pirate Bay. And they make sure to make you aware of that immediately on the site’s FAQ. “Limetorrents is a torrent search engine and directory,” the site reads, “which [does] NOT host torrent files but links to torrents hosted on other websites. We try to keep Lime Torrents family-safe, so adult submissions or search are not allowed.” This is a good way for Lime Torrents to protect themselves, from a legal standpoint, making them (hopefully) less likely to be shut down or censored. It’s one thing to link to torrent files; it’s another altogether, legally speaking, to host them yourself.
Interface
One of the first things that really struck me about Lime Torrents was how uncharacteristically stylish the site design was for a torrent search engine. It has a fresh and clean look to it, with its lime green and gray theme. From the moment I landed on the homepage of this site, I was immediately impressed. You will be greeted by a sparse (but professional) splash page containing a search bar, a very modern logo, some icons to browse by file type, and a slender site menu bar at the top of the page. It is all concise, intuitive, and easy on the eyes.
From there, you’ll find a pretty typical torrent file table layout providing you with available files. The table contains a magnet link, file name, date added, size, seeds, leeches, and health bar. Clicking into a torrent’s info page will show you just about everything else you need to know. Here, though, the site design gets a little sloppy and cluttered – with random ads and public service announcements about privacy showing up in splotches and icons that are seemingly tossed about with little rhyme or reason to their placement.
Content and Features
As I mentioned before, Lime Torrents is great for a wide array of file types: movies, TV shows, games, apps, music, etc. – except, of course, for XXX content. I am also pleased to report that, unlike a surprising number of torrent search engines out there, Lime Torrents does have a comments section on each torrent file. The only problem here, though, is that these comments sections do not appear to be very active, which sort of defeats their purpose, does it not?
Limetorrents in numbers
Limetorrents is a user friendly and stable torrent site. It draws more than 16.2 million users each month. On average, each session on this site lasts for 5 minutes with an average page/visit of 5.74. In addition to that, Limetorrents has a mind-boggling bounce rate of just 25.44%. Which is a good bounce rate.
Mobile and Desktop Experience
As far as offering a mobile-friendly site is concerned, Lime Torrents shines yet again. In fact, this is one of the best sites for smartphones and tablets that I have ever seen from a torrent search engine. The coders really put some thought into this, even transforming the torrent search result grid to be more mobile-friendly. Great news, of course, for anyone who loves to torrent on the go.
Conclusion
Well, as I touched upon a moment ago … I would love to see Lime Torrents figure out a way to stoke more user engagement. The fact that so many of these torrent files featured have no comments associated with them is troubling. Comments are, after all, the number one way to ensure that torrent files are safe and of the highest possible quality. If they cannot figure out a way to create more user engagement, Lime Torrents needs to come up with another strategy for quality control, in my opinion. Torrenting should feel as safe as possible!
